Fan Changes Mind, Will Return 2,000th RBI Ball To Albert Pujols

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v Detroit Tigers

Los Angles Angles first basemen Albert Pujols became just the third player in major league history to record 2,000 RBIs with his 639th career home run in the third inning of a 13-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday (May 9). The historic ball was caught by a Tigers fan who decided to keep it for himself.

The fan, identified as Ely Hydes, refused multiple offers, including a meet-and-greet with Pujols and signed memorabilia from Tigers superstar Miguel Cabrera. According to the Detroit News, Hydes planned to give it to his brother, who is a fan of Pujols' first team, the St. Louis Cardinals, or save it for his child, who is due to be born in the coming weeks.

The next day Hydes changed his mind and contacted the Angles letting them know he will return the historic ball to Pujols.

"I slept on it," Hydes told the Detroit News over the phone. "All I ever wanted was to sleep on it. I slept on it, and I woke up, and I think (Pujols) is a class act."
