State Officials Pleasantly Puzzled By Growth In Erie Walleye Stocks

It may be a puzzle for state fish and game officials, but anglers are digging what experts are calling an explosion in Lake Erie's walleye population. Officials with the Ohio Division of Wildlife say they can't explain why the walleye have come back in such numbers, but they share the anglers' enthusiasm. According to The Plain Dealer, estimates are that Lake Erie's walleye population has grown from a little over 400 thousand to almost two million since 2011. Commercial fishing for walleye in the lake was banned in the late 60s.
