MARION COMMUNITY FOUNDATION WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBER, OFFICERS

MARION, OH – Justin Hamper of OhioHealth was welcomed as the newest member of Marion Community Foundation’s board of directors, following the Board’s annual meeting in June. New officers were elected for the 2020-21 fiscal year and outgoing Board member Nikki Workman was thanked for her years of service.

Marion Community Foundation, which has served the community since 1998, maintains a 15-member Board of Directors to oversee the staff and operations which return $2 million annually to the Marion community in the form of grants and scholarships. Board members include local professionals, educators, attorneys, and business executives who are knowledgeable about the Marion community, its needs, and resources. They serve on rotating 3-year terms and meet monthly to direct the operations of the Foundation.

The 2020-21 Board officers are as follows: Chair Kathy Goodman, retired educator; Vice Chair Scott Knowles, CEO of Sims Bros. Recycling; Secretary Fran Voll, retired educator; Treasurer Chuck Speelman, superintendent of Tri-Rivers Career Center; and, Immediate Past Chair Jeremy Dunn, general manager of Solenix, LLC. Staff officers are President and CEO Dean L. Jacob and Vice President Julie Prettyman.

Hamper brings to the Board more than 12 years of experience with OhioHealth, currently serving as the Administrative Director of Clinical Operations at Marion General Hospital. As such, he is responsible for pharmacy, information, laboratory and imaging services, Clinical Engineering and Employer Services at OhioHealth Marion General Hospital and Imaging Services at OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital. He is also leading the Master Facility renovation of the hospital here in Marion.

Hamper holds a doctorate in pharmacy from The Ohio State University and is a resident of Marion. His other civic involvements include serving on Marion Technical College’s Board of Trustees, as treasurer of the Marion Merchants Baseball Club, and on the board of Restore the Glory Marion.

“As a lifelong resident of Marion, I have seen the positive impact that the Marion Community Foundation has had on our community. I have a passion for servant leadership and am excited to join the great team of leaders that are presently assembled on the Board. I hope to bring energy and pride to the Board for many years to come,” said Hamper.

Board members may serve up to three consecutive terms. Workman, communications director for the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities, has served for nine years.

“Nikki has been a key member of our Board, the Scholarship committee, the Marketing & Development committee, the MarionMade! committee, the Executive committee, and, of course, served as Board chair,” said Dean Jacob, president and CEO of Marion Community Foundation. “She has been one of our most active board members and always devotes great time and attention to the Foundation.”

Jacob also expressed his appreciation of Dunn’s service as his term as chair ends.

“Jeremy is young, energetic, entrepreneurial, and with a keen mind for finances,” said Jacob. “He embodies a truly active board member and Chair. Not only is he an active participant in committees and at meetings, he is active behind the scenes, helping to host special events and offering insights for improving the Foundation.”

In addition to the members already mentioned, the Directors include: Hon. Deb Alspach, John Bartram, Dr. Ryan McCall, Rev. Dan Kiger, Megan Queen, Nicolle Wampler, Jody Demo-Hodgins, Dr. Kim Stark, and Luke Henry.
