Marion Co. Bd. of Developmental Disabilities Earns 3-Yr DODD Accreditation

MARION, OH — Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) announced that Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD) was awarded accreditation for a period of three years effective March 1, 2020 with an expiration date of February 28, 2023. This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be given to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to DODD standards. An organization receiving a three-year accreditation has put itself through a rigorous commitment of time and energy. It has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are the highest quality.

“Our accreditation process was designed to assist county boards in continuously improving the quality of their services and supports to individuals with disabilities. Your efforts are now acknowledged as being in substantial compliance with state accreditation standards,” said Jeff Davis, director, DODD in the official letter of accreditation. Offering support across the lifespan of people with developmental disabilities, the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities oversees a statewide system of supportive services that focus on ensuring health and safety, supporting access to community participation, and increasing opportunities for meaningful employment. The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities conducts an accreditation review of each county board of developmental disabilities at least once every three years to determine compliance with applicable statutes and rules.

Cheryl Plaster, MCBDD superintendent said, “We take great pride in achieving this high-level accreditation. The award cements the fact that our organization is not only compliant in its goal to provide assistance to those served in the community to live, learn, and earn in Marion County; it also acknowledges the hard work of our entire staff every day. I’m so proud of our team and the support they give to the amazing people we serve.”

About MCBDD Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities is a governmental organization that provides advocacy and resources to allow those we serve to live, learn, and earn in Marion County.

In 1967, 88 County Boards of Developmental Disabilities were established by the Ohio state legislature to provide supports and services to individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. This change in philosophy and public policy provided alternatives to state run institutions and afforded individuals the opportunity to live, work, and participate in their local community.

Today, more than 800 Marion County children and adults are being served locally. Based on available resources, MCBDD may provide, or arrange for, service and support administration, early childhood services, educational

services, supported living, residential services, family support services, job training, employment services, Special Olympics, and many others.
