On September 20th and 23rd, 2022, Humane Agents with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office conducted search warrants at 3 locations in Marion County as part of three separate investigations regrading Animal Cruelty & Neglect.
As a result of these search warrants, Humane Agents rescued 43 animals that include the following:
- September 20th – 400 Block of Park Street in Marion
- 7 canines of varying breeds
- September 23rd – 180 Block of East George Street in Marion
- 1 Rabbit
- 3 Ferrets
- 20 Guinea Pigs
- 1 Hamster
- 8 canines of varying breeds
- September 23rd – 500 Block of South Main Street in Marion
- 3 canines of varying breeds
In response to the fantastic work that was done by our Humane Agents, Sheriff Bayles stated, “We will always protect those that cannot protect themselves.” “People that mistreat, neglect or abuse animals will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” Sheriff Bayles would also like to thank the Marion Area Humane Society for their assistance in these investigations. Great working relationships such as these allow us to best serve the animals and citizens of Marion County.
Investigation is still pending in each of these cases and charges pertaining to Prohibitions Concerning Companion Animals and Abandoning Animals will be forthcoming on six individuals.
