Deaf Shelter Dog, Learns Sign Language

A shelter dog in New York isn’t letting her hearing impairment slow her down as she learned sign language to help her relate to everyone she meets.

The four-year-old dog, named Blue, was rescued by a shelter last winter and it didn’t take long for the staff to realize she was deaf.

The staff then brought in a group of specialists to teach Blue sign language designed specifically for dogs.

Amazingly, Blue learned more than 25 commands, including basics like "sit," "stay" and "lie down" – along with other signs that tell Blue things like "good job."

Because of her success in learning the language and because of her sweet personality, Blue is almost ready to leave the training center and be adopted by a family who will continue to communicate with her in this special way. (People)
