President Trump has just made it clear -- he condemns white supremacists, the KKK and neo-Nazis.
Trump is back in Washington, D.C. today to meet with his top law-enforcement deputies about a response to this weekend's events in Charlottesville, Virginia. He announced that the Justice Department will open a civil rights investigation into the death of counter-protestor Heather Helvey, saying, “Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.”
In his press conference today, President Trump condemned racism and called on Americans to come together to combat hate and evil.
" We must love each other, show affection for each other, and unite together in condemnation of hatred, bigotry and violence. We must rediscover the bonds of love and loyalty that bring us together as Americans. Racism is evil, and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything that we hold dear as Americans."
Trump had come under intense criticism since his initial statement on the car-ramming case on Saturday, in which he blamed "many sides." (Politico)
