A brew master for the Avery Brewing Company in Colorado was inspired to brew beer based on recipes from over 1,000 years ago. And, amazingly, the beers turned out great.
Travis Rupp wanted to know what common people way back in the day were drinking at the pub, so he did some digging into the history books and figured out that people back then used different ingredients than we do today, including baking yeast, juniper berries and something called mugwort.
While using modern machinery, he tried to stay as true as he could to how things got done centuries ago.
He successfully brewed beers from ancient Egypt and ancient Peru – and is now attempting to brew a Viking beer.
