Randoms-Go Easy on Yourself, Using this Time for something Positive, & More

TODAY IS:

  • National Beer Day: Every day is Saturday these days, so why not have a beer or two?
  • World Health Day: We’re all in this together …
  • No Housework Day: Not an easy thing to do right now … How much more laundry, dish washing, bathroom cleaning and house cleaning in general are you doing these days?

Triathlete tripped up … by clumsy husband.Three-time Ironman world champion Mirinda Carfrae was killing it in the first ever virtual Ironman Challenge over the weekend when disaster struck. She was in second place overall and suddenly her live Facebook stream disappeared! Seems in an effort to motivate her, her husband, Tim O'Donnell, a triathlete himself, decided to bring in her previous trophies. But on his way out of the room he tripped over the power cord on her bike and unplugged it! After plugging the bike back in, Mirinda finished the race, but she didn’t place in the top three. She had a good attitude about it, though, joking on Instagram, that it might take her a few days to forgive her husband for the “stuff up.” (CBS Sports)

Using this time at home for something positive …A new survey found that 60% of respondents said they plan to use (or have already used) this time during lockdown to improve themselves – whether it’s learning a new language or instrument, taking online college courses, learning to cook, or working out more. More positivity: 80% of respondents said they are determined to find some silver linings through these days and weeks spent at home, and 69% said want to leave this time in isolation with a new skill. 40% believe they will be a better person once the COVID-19 crisis is over.

Go easy on yourself ...Everywhere you look online there are articles about how to keep from snacking while stuck at home, how to keep from overeating, and how to keep up your diet/healthy eating plan. Sure, it’s all good advice– but most of us are just trying to get through this with our sanity intact. That’s why an article on PopSugar is so helpful. What do they say? Stop worrying about your weight right now. The blog asked a panel of experts to weigh in, no pun intended, and they all say that in these times of high stress, it’s important to be kind to ourselves and to give ourselves a break – which means we need to stop beating ourselves up about eating. That’s not to say you should binge eat every day. But if you do overdo it, let it go and aim to be better the next day. And, let’s face it, a lot of us don’t have access to lots of fruits and vegetables right now, so do the best you can and stop being so hard on yourself.
