Fahrenheit 451 comes to life!

A Florida man probably wishes he could just turn the page on his decision to burn a large pile of his old books at magazines -- after the blaze got out of hand and set more than 20 of his neighbors' homes and garages on fire.

The man, whose name was not released, initially had things under control, but gusty winds quickly picked up flaming sheets of paper and cardboard, sending them in all directions and starting small blazes that eventually merged into a 700-acre burn. Since authorities determined that the man hadn't intended to cause damage, he wasn't booked on any charges -- only read the riot act.

Forestry service spokeswoman Annaleasa Winter says, "This was not malicious, but he will be liable for the cost of fighting the fire and any damage done." (Reuters)
