Marion Police Arrest Suspect for Offense Related to Child Pornography

On June 3rd of 2022, The Marion Police Department was contacted by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) with information about a resident of the City of Marion who was alleged to have downloaded images from the internet depicting child pornography.

In the early stages of the investigation, it was determined that this suspect was employed by the Marion City School district as a bus driver. Upon locating and interviewing the suspect, detectives collected electronic devices which will be analyzed by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification for the presence of illegal images and/or video.

Marion County Children’s Services and Marion City Schools were promptly notified of the pending investigation given the nature of the offense and the suspect’s employment with the school system. Marion City Schools have worked collaboratively with MPD through this stage of the inquiry.

On June 8, 2022, Michael MacKay, age 65 of Marion was formally charged with two counts of Illegal Use of a Minor or Impaired Person in Nudity-Oriented Material or Performance. Both counts are second degree felonies.

Based on our investigation to this point, the suspect images are believed to have been downloaded from the internet and do not appear to have any connection to children who attend Marion City Schools or reside in this community.

The Marion Police Department understands that incidents of this nature are of great interest to the community at large. Given the active and on-going nature of this investigation, no further details are available for release at this time.
