Miranda Lambert premiered a stunning Western visual for âRun,â a heartfelt ballad that features the powerhouse artist as the sole songwriter. The standout track appeared on Lambertâs latest full length studio record, Postcards From Texas.
The Longview, Texas-born country star ventured to an Arizona desert to film the Kate Rentz-directed music video that premiered on Thursday morning (February 20). Lambert serenades viewers with the emotional ballad, surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges and towering cacti. Horses â including her own horse, Cool â gallop through the desert setting. She looks herself in the eye in a mirror bordered with vibrant flowers as she sings: âIâm Trying To Survive In/ This State Of Defeat/ Is It You Or I That Really Lost Me/ Iâm Lookinâ For Someone/ I Wasnât With You/ We Held On For Dear Life Babe/ But Both Of Us Knew/ I Was Gonna Run/ I Was Gonna Run.â
Lambert previously explained during an album release show at Casa Rosa, her bar and live music venue in Nashville, Tennessee, that she wrote âRunâ about a decade ago. She told the crowd that the song is âfrom 2015. Itâs old, and Iâve been kind of saving it. It didnât really have a place. And I donât know if I was actually ready, if Iâm being honest, to sing it before now.â The singer-songwriter said via Rolling Stone in an interview shared on Thursday that she feels âa sense of freedom when youâre on the back of a horse with the wind in your hair, so it felt really significant to have Cool with me in this video.â
Lambert released her âhonky tonk as hellâ album, Postcards From Texas, in September. The album reunited the award-winning artist with some of her previous collaborators, including Jon Randall and Jack Ingram (The Marfa Tapes), Jesse Frasure, and others, plus her husband, Brendan McLoughlin. The 14-track project inspired by Lambertâs home state includes âArmadillo,â âDammit Randy,â âSanta Feâ with fellow Texan Parker McCollum, âWranglers,â âAlimonyâ and more.
