Brett Young Wowed By TikTok Success

In a recent interview with Cody Alan, Brett Young revealed how TikTok has become a powerful platform to help him to stay engaged with his fans.

On February 1st, 2020, Brett Young took his 'Chapters Tour' to NYC, where he played a sold-out show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Fans spanned the length of two city clocks, waiting to "Catch" the singer croon the crowd.

During that performance, Brett debuted a heartfelt song entitled, "Lady" which was inspired by the two leading ladies in his life, his baby girl, Presley, and his wife, Taylor.

Over a year later, Brett is still wowed by the response he receives from his single.

"It's so cool to see that!" says Brett referring to watching 'Lady' spike in popularity on the TikTok "For You Page."

"We saw a small version of this with "In Case You Didn't Know," with people using this song at their weddings," says Brett. "That was already obviously very flattering that people wanted to use that on the biggest day of their lives, but to watch the way people are connecting this song to the birth of their children and also using it to express their love and admiration for their wives and significant others. I hadn't even gotten on TikTok yet, until someone came to me and said, "Lady is everywhere on TikTok!"

Brett continued to share how the song came to be after a brainstorming session with two of Nashville's leading songwriters.

"The idea was just to write something for my daughter. I always knew I wanted to have kids and how as a songwriter, I wanted to write songs for them," says Brett. "But the real kind of brainchild really didn't start until we found out that we are having a girl."

"I just got lucky enough to end up in a writers room with Ross Copperman and Jon Knight. I had the idea for the title because it was kind of the nickname that I had used for my wife Taylor, kind of in a sarcastic manner, like, when she would put the "honey-do" list on the counter, I would be like, "Okay lady. I got it."

"And, then we started calling Presley before we had named her, she was "little lady," says the country star. "I got in the room with Jon, and he had just written a song called "Boy" that Lee Brice recorded. So, it was good that he didn't want to just do that for a female. He is like, "Since I just did that, what's the twist on this? What makes this different?"

"It's because he was determined and not just replicating "Boy," that we ended up with this brainstorming session, and it turned out that it was really a letter to my daughter about my wife," shared Brett candidly. "I never knew I was going to get to share it with the world, but once we were done with it, we saw how many people were relating and connecting to it. It seemed like a no-brainer."
